After enjoying Divergent, then watching the movie, I finally decided to continue the series with Insurgent. And I'm glad I did! The novels resumes minutes after Divergent ends (which, given it's been 15 months since I read the first book in the series, threw me at first). There's less backstory and world-building to do, so it seemed more action-oriented.

I continued to enjoy Tris' perspective and personality. She's reckless, selfless, still trying to prove herself (er, to herself), smart, analytical, and believably, beautifully flawed. Her relationship with everyone suffers in realistic ways, based on her decisions and actions (both in the first book and in this one), and I lovelovelove when an author addresses consequences.

My only problem with the book is the major reveal. No spoilers, and all that, but it's not anything original, and we all saw it coming chapters before it happened. It also relies on fake science (that genetics dictate personality) which pretty much undermines the entire faction system (where environment dictates personality). So it felt disjointed to me, in that sense. But then the action continues and there's still forward momentum and resolutions to be obtained.

Overall, this was a great sequel to Divergent, and has me reaching for the third book (Allegiant). I recommend it for fans of the first book, and I recommend the series for fans of dystopian YA, believably flawed and strong female protagonists, and interesting world-building. Also, if you live in Chicago you'll probably enjoy the nods to familiar landmarks (which had me looking at Google Maps a lot).

This was my favorite of the series. I'm an angsty person sometimes. Its probably why I'm so obsessed with Persuasion.

i can't wait to read it. The first one was epic!

This book is just as amazing as the first one; as Tris and her friends hide out in Amity headquarters with Johanna Reyes, hiding from the Dauntless who have come to kill the Divergent. This book is amazing, I am proud to have it on my shelf.

Just as good - if not better - than the first book, Divergent. Insurgent brought me to tears as well as made me laugh. Veronica Roth continuously keeps the reader entertained with extremely descriptive words during the conflicts, romance and adventure.

This was my fave book of the divergent series. It's when Peter, (Don't want to spoil anything from Divergent) starts to show his nicer side. I've read the series a lot of times. So, in my point of view, it's a really good series! And best of all the Insurgent movie is coming out this spring!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Liked it better than the first. I think the author caught her stride. Still kind of a "great world, great plot, so-so writing" kind of deal for me, but I'm interested enough to have put the third one on hold.

love it go v.r. !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

On the floor, Eric moans. Still alive, for now. The gunshots gradually stop. My hand is wet. One glimpse of red tells me it's covered in blood-- Eric's. I wipe it off on my pants and try to blink the tears away. My ears ring. "Tris," Tobias says. "You can put the knife down."

“So, the thing we’re all not talking about,” he says. He gestures to me. “You almost died, a sadistic pansycake saved you, and now we’re all waging some serious war with the factionless as allies.”
“Pansycake?” says Christina.
“Dauntless slang.” Lynn smirks. “Supposed to be a huge insult, only no one uses it anymore.”
“Because it’s so offensive,” says Uriah, nodding.
“No. Because it’s so stupid no Dauntless with any sense would speak it, let alone think it. Pansycake. What are you, twelve?”
“And a half,” he says.

"Got that gun?" Peter says to Tobias.
"No," says Tobias, "I figured I would shoot the bullets out of my nostrils, so I left it upstairs."
"Oh, shut up."

Grief is not as heavy as guilt, but it takes more away from you.

"Sleep," he says. "I'll fight the bad dreams off if they come to get you."

"With what?"

"My bare hands, obviously."

When I walk back into Tobias's room, Uriah is sprawled across the bed facedown; Christina is holding the blue sculpture above Tobias's desk, examining it; and Lynn is poised above Uriah with a pillow, a wicked grin creeping across her face. Lynn smacks Uriah hard in the back of the head, Christina says, "Hey Tris!" and Uriah cries, "Ow! How on earth do you make a PILLOW hurt, Lynn?"

This is wrong. It's wrong to forget who I have become, and to let him kiss me when I know what I am about to do. But I want to. Oh, I want to.

One choice can transform you...
One choice can destroy you....
Tris Prior knows she isn't just Dauntless or Abnegation......... she must be more than both. As the war between the factions rages on Tris faces more and more problems. She hides secret from her loved ones. Tobias and her are now face problems in their relationship. And what was the real reason for her mother being in the Abnegation headquarters the night of her death?

"As war surges in the dystopian society around her, sixteen-year-old Divergent Tris Prior must continue trying to save those she loves--and herself--while grappling with haunting questions of grief and forgiveness, identity and loyalty, politics and love"--

Background info about Divergent: It's all about the Erudite wanting to controll the Dauntless people to attack the Abnegation.
Now in Insurgent, Tris, Tobias and others of the Abnegations went to Amity headcorters to seek shelter. The Erudite found out and everyone had to run again. Then one night out of no where two of Tris's friends were being controlled and jumped off the building threatening that if one divergent person is not in the Erudite headcorters by__ this would happen again.
Basically, it is a fast pace book with people on the edge of their chairs waiting for what is to come in this book.
