Deaver, Jeffery

Book - 2012
Average Rating: 3.5 stars out of 5.
International #1 bestseller Jeffery Deaver delivers a sensational thriller in which a beautiful young country-pop singer is stalked by an obsessive fan who thinks her big hit song was written just for him. Features Deaver's popular character California Bureau of Investigation agent Kathryn Dance. Kayleigh Towne's music career is just reaching new heights with her huge hit single "Your Shadow"-but increased fame is also bringing unwanted attention. An innocent exchange with one of her fans, signed with an "XO," leads Kayleigh into the dangerous and terrifying realm of obsession. Edwin Sharp thinks Kayleigh's songs contain messages that speak directly to him. Despite her clear rejection and threats from lawyers and law enforcers, he remains convinced that "Your Shadow" was written just for him, and he announces he's coming for Kayleigh. Then a potentially fatal accident occurs at the concert hall where Kayleigh is rehearsing for a triumphant hometown performance, and she is convinced that someone-maybe Edwin-was there watching her from the darkness. Speeding along over just three short days, this nail-biting thriller is filled with terrifying twists that will hold readers in rapt suspense until the final shocking revelation.

Not the most interesting read for people who do not follow pop culture and the lives of media darlings. but good plot twists and police work.

Some unexpected twists and turns. The book doesn't get better until you are about half way through it - that's why I only gave it three stars.

A good story but a little tedious in places.

This is a classic Jeffery Deaver novel, complete with twists and turns, with a surprise around every corner, right to the very last page. An interesting look at Katherine Dancer's life outside of the CBI as a songcatcher. I was pleasantly surprised by the appendix, composed of country/folk song lyrics, all by Jeffrey Deaver, who once was a folksinger himself. If you want to know more about songcatchers, check out the Aidan Quinn movie "Songcatcher." available at BPL.

Half of the book at the start read like a biography of a young country singer, not a typical thriller by J. Deaver. Also, the book should have ended before the final few chapters which extended the story with a hard to believe twist in events.

Another winner from Jeffrey Deaver. Deaver delivers a consistent stream of complex mystery thrillers that focus on "detail" to unravel the crime. This latest offering featuring Kathryn Dance is a thoroughly enjoyable read that also provides a glimpse of the business side of the music industry.
