a little bit of everything
This is thrilling book about one girls' fight for survival. She replaces her sister in a vicious games, called the hunger games. The hunger games is a fight to the death. 24 children are put in an "arena" (which is really vast plains that change every year, that can have different landscapes.) They must battle each other to kill, and be the last man standing. The concept of the book is based around a girl named Katniss, who takes her younger sisters place in the games. Katniss is a scrawny 16 year old who believes she has no chance, as she is weak, underfed and from a poor 'district.' Her only weapon is her ability to kill prey for food, as she does this on a regular basis. This makes her handy with a bow and arrow, but that is about all she has going for her. As the games progress, she develops more skill, makes friendships, and finds she is not as lonely as she thought she was. She uses all she has learnt from her mother in medical skill, to help her only fellow companion from her district. Her sponsors are a lot of help, sendind her gifts to help her survive, treat wounds, etc, but her only key to escape is her ability to think outside the square and outsmart the gamemakers.
in the ruins of a place known as north america lies trhe nation of Panem, a shining capitol surrounded by twelve outlying districts. the capitol is harsh and cruel and keeps the districts in line by forcing them all to send one boy and one girl between the ages of twelve and eighteen to participate in the anual hunger games, a fight to death on live tv. It is about a 16 year old girl named katiness that regards it as a death sentance when she steps foward to take her sisters place in the games. but katniss has been close to deth before- and survival for her, is second nature. without really meaning too, she becomes a contender. but if she is to win, she will have to start making choices that weigh her survival against humanity and life against love. To me this is the most intresting book i have read before because i dont like reading much.
This book is about survival, a cruel place called Panem and yes, a little bit of love. Panem is the wreckage of what was once known as North America. There are 12 districts each specializing in a certain thing. District 12 are coal miners, District 11 are gardeners, so on. Then there is the Capitol. Every year, to show they have power over everyone, they host a gameshow called the Hunger Games. They have a Reaping day and select one young man and woman to compete. This isn't a normal gameshow. You fight for your life. You kill other children and it's broadcasted live on TV.
A little bit of everything.
A refreshing take on violence in literature!
Katniss Everdeen lives in poor twelfth district of the dictatorship of Panem, which has taken the place of North America. Every year, a boy and a girl, ages twelve to eighteen, from each district are sent to the Capitol to fight in The Hunger Games, in which they must survive in a randomly selected environment while trying to kill each other. It is all one live TV, a reminder of how much control the government has over the people. When Katniss's younger sister is chosen, Katniss immediately volunteers to take her place. She is almost certain she will die but ends up making unexpected alliances and faking a love story.

But if she is to win, she will have to start making choices that will weigh survival against humanity and life against love.

Notices
Add a NoticeViolence: Concept is children killing each other. "Survival of the Fittest"
Sexual Content: kissing, but yah, not a lot.
Violence: well of course it's kids killing each other. But the first part doesn't really have any... does it? i have to go read it again!!!
Sexual Content: u count kissing
Frightening or Intense Scenes: the fights are intense. but they'll like it.
Sexual Content: none unless u count kissing and nakedness but they dont describe the nakedness
Violence: the whole thing is a gory killing arena.
Frightening or Intense Scenes: 7/10 There are a few scenes that are intense, especially the ending and a scene in the middle of the book. I'd say this book was cleanest of violence, gore, and frightening images out of all three books.
Sexual Content: 2/10 There is kissing, and some nakedness when her stylist must dress her and such, but there is no details on the nakedness. There really isn't any sexual content.
Violence: 8/10 There was violence, considering this book is a Colosseum themed book. The kids are placed in a large, vast, arena where they all fight to the death. Last one standing gets to go home with fortunes. There is medium level details on the attacks, and pain. Such as, 'drowned in his blood'.

“I am not pretty. I am not beautiful. I am as radiant as the sun.”
“I'm coming back into focus when Caesar asks him if he has a girlfriend back home. Peeta hesitates, then gives an unconvincing shake of his head. Handsome lad like you. There must be some special girl. Come on, what’s her name?" says Caesar. Peeta sighs. "Well, there is this one girl. I’ve had a crush on her ever since I can remember. But I’m pretty sure she didn’t know I was alive until the reaping." Sounds of sympathy from the crowd. Unrequited love they can relate to. She have another fellow?" asks Caesar. I don’t know, but a lot of boys like her," says Peeta. So, here’s what you do. You win, you go home. She can’t turn you down then, eh?" says Caesar encouraging-ly. I don’t think it’s going to work out. Winning...won’t help in my case," says Peeta. Why ever not?" says Caesar, mystified. Peeta blushes beet red and stammers out. "Because...because...she came here with me.”

here's an actual comment for the book: "i was so obsessed with this book i had to take it with me out to dinner and hide it under the edge of the table so i wouldn't have to stop reading. The story kept me up for several nights in a row because even after i was finished i jst lay in the bed awake thinking about it...The hunger games is amazing" -stephenie Meyer, author of the twilight saga
omg i love this book it is so exiting and i got sucked in to the book i was reading it at school and i didn't want to put the book down i read the book first they did not leave out any thing and i just got catching fire and i cant wait
I finally got sucked into the hype and decided to read the book. Glad I did because it was quite enjoyable, if slightly far-fetched. But it is a fantasy novel, so don't think to hard about the implausibility of some of the situations. Other than that, it was a great yarn, the characters while not loveable, are certainly likeable enough that you don't want to see them harmed. Looking forward to the next 2 books in the trilogy.
I saw the movie, then I read the book. The book is
