As good as this is, I find I like 2020 version with Anya Taylor-Joy better. This version is fancier and more formal, almost like a fairy tale, while the 2020 version seems more like real people but with privilege. But both are great in…

I was delighted by Paltrow's airy presentation of one Emma Woodhouse - a well-to-do socialite with a great deal of time on her hands, and a penchant for matchmaking (to various results). The film was delightfully faithful to the original…

Filled with all stars like Gweneth Paltrow, Ewan MacGregor and Jeremy Northam, it definitely had glitzy costumes and glamour....but perhaps Emma comes off looking rather like an airhead in this one versus a bright self confident girl who…

One of my favorite movies. It follows pretty closely to the book (adding a few lines said by Mr. Knightley that are the sweetest).

I am not a huge fan of Goop founder, Gwyneth Paltrow, but I have to admit she is absolutely perfect in this film's title role. It's a beautiful adaptation of the Jane Austen novel that any of her afficiandos will thoroughly enjoy.

As a lover of all Jane Austen's novels who enjoys many of the movie adaptations, I just couldn't like this one. The cast is overall very good, especially Alan Cumming as the smarmy Mr Elton and Toni Collette as Harriet, and the Bates…

Everything is wrong with this 1996 Miramax Films version and it's possible to enjoy any of the other 3 film versions offered at the VPL. I believe a grave mistake was made in casting and the artistic presentation seemed out of step. I even…

The 1996 film, 'Emma', starring Gwyneth Paltrow, is a beautiful portrayal of Jane Austen's book. The story follows Emma as she tries successfully (and unsuccessfully) match-making her friends together and the trouble she gets herself into…

Good movie! Boys seem to not really like it though. My brother runs to his room when he hears we are going to watch it! LOL!

This is the best movie version of "Emma" I have seen. Great period piece to escape for a couple of hours. Beautifully designed costumes and sets--gives you a real feel for an elegance of another time. I highly recommend this movie.

They changed up the story a bit too much in this version for my liking, but I liked how Gwyneth Paltrow portrayed Emma. As a movie, its normal that they can't fit in the whole story just like in the book.

Well done and amusing, but possibly not the truest to the the original. Paltrow is definitely confident, but not quite pushy enough.

Normally I love Jane-Austin movies.... but this one was just terrible. I read the book and even though it was slow, it was WAY better then this movie. I didn't even care to watch the ending. I'll look for an A&E, BBC or PBS version…

this was truly a hollywood version of emma. it was terribly done and i felt the characters were poorly cast. especially mr. elton, though mrs. elton was the only character to be spot on. the bbc versions of austen's stories are always so…

I first read the book, then saw this movie and i thought Gwenyth Paltrow did an amazing job as Emma. Captured her character very well (spoiled, but kind).

Normally I love Gwynneth Paltrow, but not so much in this film... I couldn't even make myself sit through the whole thing.

Mildly entertaining period romantic comedy, based on a book by Jane Austen, about a well-to-do young woman's matchmaking schemes. Decent supporting cast and visuals somewhat compensate for Gwynneth Paltrow's badly faked English accent and…
