this is a superficial book which draws from the psychoanalytical literature to make obvious, true points which nevertheless have not seemed to effect the trend in our culture, toward this bottomless pit of meaninglessness. for some, they read sections only which they understand easily, and then use the n-word frequently, to criticise those whom they dislike who are much more powerful than they. what i am saying, is, i wish more of those who read a secondary-sourcing book such as this, would remember their questions which were brought forth by the reading, and track down the original thinkers referenced at the back of the book, in a section widely known as "footnotes." there lies the answers to those questions, which are the trails to follow deeper into the woods , those sticky wickets of the unknown, dare-i-say, the unconscious. (how can you know something if it habitually remains unconscious? is this a bad habit of the narcissistic?)// do not fall into the trap of the do-gooders, who earn--they think--the right to tell others what they should do, sole-ly because they carry a banner which screams I'M YOUR BETTER, HERE TO TELL YOU WHAT TO DO, AND WHO TO DO IT FOR. Many of these motivate as well as populate the forces of authoritarianism, fascism, and socialism/communism. Beware of them: they will make sure you don't even have a self, after they have gotten through using you for the betterment of the "truly needy, truly deserving, etc." Hi there Olde Grey Mare, how are those backyard trees doing? I ruined my feet for you, you set such a splendid example. And i was happy to do it./ You delivered a whoppo guilt complex. You raised your metal cane to my eye-level, in the Lake Hills branch. That was the moment i achieved my satori, about you, you freak-show.

One of the defining books of the late 20th C on our narcissistic culture and its trend of diminishing expectations.
Of interest is the brilliant Lasch's take on NW natives. Find this passage by a great observor and learn how great minds see the extremely limited nature of provincial denizens.
