Started a little slow for me but the last couple chapters really made up for it! This book had a little romance, paranormal (wouldn't a Brenna Yovanoff book without it ) and mystery in it so it can appeal to anyone. I like how you could see character develop in Hannah, having her stop being one of the “popular” girls because thats the image that her friend group set up for them selves to her true self. And with Lillian, Hannahs best friend who died, having her really help Hannah and finally being able to let her go and fully pass on. Throughly enjoyed this book. Rating: 3.5 out of 5 stars.

The introduction to the book was pretty fun to read, but a little confusing to understand at first. For example, the story behind Lilian; I did not see the protagonist's feelings behind her motives. But as the book continued on, more secrets came to light and my eyes were opened up. Overall, if readers like mystery, suspense, and romance, this book is great for them. However, I was expecting a bit more participation from the main character in the uncovering of the murders. This book gave great insight on the stereotypes and unjust treatment of those in today's society. It helps readers see that sometimes, there is more to people in books, and in life, than outward appearances.

I have been reading a lot of mysteries lately and I liked the juxtaposition Yovanoff creates between Hannah and Lillian (who couldn't be more different). It would be easy, on first glance, to write Lillian off as a traditional mean girl (bullying others, always having to cut other people down, using back-handed compliments), but Yovanoff doesn't let Lillian fall into that trope. Although Lillian might be all those things, she is also strong, she speaks her mind, and she stands up for herself. When Hannah needs these traits the most, she borrows them from Lillian, showing how not everyone (or every personality trait) is wholly good or wholly bad. With rich, complex characters, and a great plot, this book will satisfy paranormal and mystery fans alike.

The twist at the end was so great! Its haunting and creepy and a great mystery book! Im hungrily waiting for brenna's other books, the replacement and the space in between. This books plot was just toooooo good

It was an okay book. The plot was spooky and it didn't really make a lot of sense. Paper Valentine seems similar to many other books in this genre such as Velveteen by Daniel Marks. I was surprised that the author didn't write more about Finny's past and the reason that he shop lifts. I was also left wondering why Brenna never discussed Hannah's ability to see the dead when other people around her could not. The explanation for the murders felt too convenient and VERY fake.

A great read. Told in a age and attitude appropriate way with all the characters growing and changing throughout the entirety of the story.

Spooky and perfect and delightfully unsettling. Yovanoff's latest edges more into the gothic mystery than horror, but still achieves the have-to-sleep-with-the-lights-on feeling. the blending of the supernatural with real human evil, alongside difficult topics (Lillian died of anorexia) makes this a good pick for fans of Christopher Pike. Also good for readers who want horror but aren't ready for Gillian Flynn yet.
