Still breaks my heart open every time I have seen this. One of my favorite movies that touches very deeply.

A good example of Tim Burton's work, where bright colors are contrasted oddly with dark gothic visuals, Edward Scissorhands is also notable for really kick-starting Johnny Depp's career into high gear, by starting him on the path of off-the-wall roles. The film itself is an odd gothic fairy tale, with fantastic performances from the cast, especially Depp and Winona Ryder. The film also contains many of Burton's staples, including music by Danny Elfman. It is a really entertaining, dark, and rather sweetly poignant film that could be for someone who is looking for something a little bit different to watch, especially at Christmas time.

“Edward Scissorhands” is about Edward, an outcast who, quite literally, has scissors for hands. After the death of his inventor father, Edward is adopted by Peg, a perky Avon saleswoman. After Peg’s daughter, Kim, returns from a camping trip, Edward begins to fall in love with the teen. At this time, the other people from Peg’s neighborhood discover Edward’s affinity for trimming hedges and hair, and Edward soon finds himself employed. Everything begins to go awry though, and Edward finds himself on the run.

This film is a heartwarming tale by Tim Burton. It has his signature, eerie style plastered over everything from the setting to character design. The setting is a pastel-coloured suburb, which is a sharp contrast to the dark, industrial design of Edward. The suburb also adds a sense of normality to the otherwise lovingly absurd movie. The characters are all unique and well-written, and the actors do a phenomenal job of bringing their characters to life. The plot itself is heartwarming and clever, and will never lose the audience’s interest. There are minimum special effects in the movie, as nearly all of the effects were done through set design, costume design, and makeup. The set, costume, and makeup designs are outstanding, and truly bring the movie to life.

The author of this review highly recommends “Edward Scissorhands”. It is a timeless, wonderful movie that will captivate audiences both young and old. The author of this review believes the movie to be suitable for ages thirteen and up.

Very intriguing film. Johnny Depp is wonderful in this. It's not a superficial film. It sends a strong message of love and acceptance. A great depiction of suburbia, too!! I highly recommend watching this Tim Burton film........a true masterpiece.

This is a film that I HAVE to revisit every once in a while, just like the original Frankenstein,, Dracula, and, the Werewolf! It has, what I believe to be, the final onscreen appearance of Vincent Price, whose Rap, I loved in the Michael Jackson Video, AND, Johnny Depp as a misunderstood creation/monster! Also, portraying The Villagers, White, Middle Class, Suburbia; "Gotta Love IT!"

A very typically eccentric Tim Burton film, with a fish out of water outsider brought out of his home and into suburbia by a well meaning saleslady. Depp and Ryder are ideally cast in their roles.

I'm not sure how I, of all people, managed missing this film. the whole "no one is odd, some of us are just more different than others are from each other" message really is something to behold.

The degree to which the romantic fairy tale is told really is astonishing. It's so sweet, even when you have a goth-looking boy with hands replaced with a series of scissors and hedge shears, and wearing a tight-fitting leather outfit which resembles bondage gear more than overalls.

Alan Arkin portrays a father who is so easy-going it's almost immoral. "My wife has brought home a guy with knives for fingers? Okay, he can sleep in there. Having girl trouble? Have a drink and let me explain how impossible to understand women are. He's in jail? Well, we better learn him some moral then..." I'm not sure if we should view the character as being the most pragmatic guy in the world or the most irresponsibly blasé guy in history.

Seeing Johnny Depp with a little baby's face as well as Winona Rider with blonde hair are both quite off-putting. But this is just as well, as it allows you to dive into the story head-first, and really appreciate the message of love, trust, and sensitivity.

Edward Scissorhands is a wonderful modern masterpiece. Johnny Depp does an amazing job as usual, and Tim Burton's darkness makes this movie stand out from the rest. I recommend that everyone check this movie out at least once, I guarantee it will not disappoint.
