Imprisoned vampire, Barnabas Collins is inadvertently freed from his tomb and emerges into the very changed world of 1972. He returns to Collinwood Manor to find that his once-grand estate has fallen into ruin. The dysfunctional remnants of the Collins family have fared little better and are in need of his protection.

As a huge fan of the show, I was apprehensive about the movie. Johnny Depp isn't a bad actor, but seems to lack the ability to play anything straight, and I was worried that he would completely comedy and camp it up. Surprisingly, I found myself really liking it, especially the first hour or so. It doesn't replace the show or anything like that for me, but I thought it was mostly respectful to the original, and good.

Not Depp's or Burton's worst but not their best either. It had some fun moments. Worth a look but not as good as The Addam's Family movie of about 25 years ago.

This underrated Tim Burton gem resurrects the soap opera Dark Shadows from the grave and brings it to new heights with a contemporary interpretation of a cult classic. After being buried alive for 200 years by his spurned witch paramour Angelique, vampire Barnabas Collins is released from his earthly prison, must adapt to life in the 70s, and tries to restore his family's legacy to its former glory. If you are a fan of campy, playful, macabre works, then you will adore this film that has a surprising amount of wit and plenty of fun, over-the-top moments. Dark Shadows is of my favorite movies (I think I've watched it at least 15 times) and is the perfect way to start your Halloween movie marathon.

This was a great movie. Helena Bonham Carter killed it as always. The ending was kind of really bad though

I thought the film was okay for about the first hour and a half, nothing great, but tolerable. The last thirty minutes cemented this as one of Tim Burton's worsts.

Join the 70's again in this Tim Burton film. Johnny Depp plays Barnabas Collins, with a great supporting cast including Michelle Pfeiffer. Ms. Pfeiffer seems to have lots of fun and it was good to see her again. Carpenter's music feature heavily--just warning you!!

Do not let bitsymom, jivejoe, et al sway you from watching this great, awesome movie. I admit that the first time I watched Dark Shadows, I was anticipating a mystery/horror movie and what I got was so much more. I've since watched it two more times and definitely recommend it to everyone.

Horrible, horrible horrible. Johnny Depp STUNK. He should take his money and buy up all the copies of this horrid movie and hope that no one remembers it. I hated everything about this movie. Bad acting, bad directing, bad script. Enough said.

Quite probably Johnny Depp is one of the finest comedic actors who has ever lived, but after watching this film he's got to be the only one who could have pulled it off! What a quality comedy tale filled with minimalist horror, but too lighthearted to count! Didn't realize Eva Green could be so hot! And Michelle Pfeiffer, Chloe Grace Moretz, Helena Bonham-Carter were outstanding in their roles!

Barnabas: You know, there was a time long ago when I believed money makes the man. When I believed it was the answer to all that ailed us. But it is not the size of the house that makes the man great Master David. It is the people he shares it with. Money will come and go. Family is the only real wealth.
David: So we don't need money to make our family great again?
Barnabas: No, Don't be daft. We shall need an exorbitant amount of money.
