A holiday trip for 11-year-old Picasso Lane and her parents is a shocking life-changer. Her father, Oliver, never returns home as he is mysteriously shot dead leaving wife, Diana and young Picasso to begin new lives. Detective Kyle Kennedy and his partner investigate the death and suspect murder but need patience to piece together a case. Meanwhile, the detectives discover that Oliver is also married to two other women. Secretly, Diana knows about them, and secretly Picasso does too. The three women had become acquaintances and allies when concluding they could kill their husband in a flawless crime. As one says over lunch, “We’re all smart women. We could pull it off.” This engrossing, well-plotted, first novel expertly uses multiple narrations to tell its story.

Without giving the ending to this slightly creepy murder mystery, all I can say is “Well, that’s not what I expected.” Seattle resident, Jennifer Murphy, has created a page turner for her debut novel. Told by different characters in the story it is the tale of the murder of a husband who has three wives. Oliver is legally married to one but has children in all three marriages. One of the primary observers in the book is his legal daughter, Picasso. Murphy manages to create different voices for each of her narrators who include the wives, Picasso and the detective who has to solve the case.

This book was a slow one for me. For one, I'm not sure if the author was 100% certain what she wanted this story to be. Drama? Suspense? Thriller? Depending on the chapter you read, it could have been any one of those. The ending was pretty predictable as well. I practically crawled to the ending of this book and regret the time I wasted.

I loved this book. Twisted...once you think you know, you're shocked again. I liked all the different POV. It kept it interesting. I recommend this for a long weekend/vacation read.

Too many POV changes for my taste. The monthly "pink nights" and RCP picnics were just plain unbelievable.

1 dead husband, 3 blonde wives, and 4 children. Who killed Oliver? Each chapter is from a different character's perspective so we know what is happening from all perspectives, but we don't exactly know who pulled the trigger. A well written suspense novel and a fun read!
