I didn't like this series at first, but it has grown on me. Looking forward to season 4. I'd like to read the book, and get more of the REAL story! (but I am enjoying this fiction!) Love the costumes and the set.

Never quite as good as the previous series 1 and 2, but the plots are still entertaining and fresh. Sadly the older Selfridge daughters and other new characters are slightly annoying. However, handsome Mr. Colleano and all the conflict that comes with his character more than makes up for it.

I enjoyed the first and second seasons and this one too. OK, Piven was absolutely not the best choice to play Selfridge--if you ever seen pictures of him, you will understand how different the man looked. And, yes, Piven's acting is too "modern"; especially his beard: men at that time did not wear our modern "two-day" beards. Worse even: the real Selfridge sported a mustache! There are too many liberties taken with what little is known of his family's history and a lot of the behavior portrayed does not feel true to the era. Yet, I enjoyed the series. It is very well made and the costumes are fantastic. I am looking forward to the fourth season!

The Paradise was much better with great casting. This moves far too quickly and revolves around the typical swindlers and marriage storylines. The female cast all look alike with the same hair color and style with similar facial features so it was rather confusing. Jeremy Piven is a bad actor and certainly not period piece material. Selfridge was American but even in the era, an air of stuffiness and formality would've been common. Piven is too modern in speech and mannerisms.

Not as sharp and clever as prior two seasons while focus shifted to the love lives of Harry, his children and staffs. As Violette said on love: It's not as simple as you think (see quotes.)

Mr Selfridge is back, but this 3rd in the series is rather more about his family and their predicaments than the lead character himself and that's a bit disappointing. (None of them are as interesting as he is)! Nevertheless, there's adventure, romance, scheming, betrayal, and revenge, all with fine acting, clever writing and wit. Not as good as previous series, but still top-notch.

Jacques: Your former intimacy with Monsieur Colleano doesn't bother me. It might bother any other man, but I'm a man of the world. We are a good match.
Violette: That sounds so cold. Shouldn't love figure in the equation?
Jacques: Well, you've had love. Where has it got you?
Gus: All the scams we've pulled. Broken every rule. But the one rule you never break - you don't fall in love with the target.
Grace: Of course I love you. But I can only be with you if you tell your father about us.
Rosalie: You have to fight for
the person you love.

On love:
Harry: ~ I don't want any woman by my side. I want you. You're clever and funny and brave. And you're also a little...cross and defensive, but even when you're angry I like you. And I love it when you frown because those little lines right there, well, they're sweet. And I love it when you smile. Those little dimples, well, they just have to be kissed.
Harry's mom: So, how did Rosalie come into the picture?
Marie: When Serge fell in love with her.
Harry's mom: With her or with her money?
Marie: Do you think I would let my only son go into a loveless marriage?

On love:
Agnes: I've looked everywhere for him.
Miss Mardle: He'll come back to you, my dear. Because he loves you and you love him.
Agnes: Maybe that's not enough. Whatever's happened to him in the war's changed him.I don't know him any more. He frightens me.
Victor: If you want a boyfriend or you're looking for love, I'm a bad bet.
Violette: Did someone break your heart?
Victor: I mean it. I've got nothing to give.
Violette: I'm not in the market for love. More trouble than it's worth. A little excitement - you're not going to deny me that, are you?

On Love:
Harry: You do love him, don't you?
Rosalie: Of course.
Harry: I'm sorry I've been so caught up with business.
Rosalie: I love him, Pa.
Harry: And you know why?
Rosalie: Why? He reminds me of you.
Harry: I'm not sure that's a reason to marry anyone.
Rosalie: I think it is! You're the best father in the world.
Violette: Don't let Serge play you like Pa played Ma.
Rosalie: Oh, spare me the advice, Violette. You've never been in love with a man. You've hardly ever been out with one.
Violette: It's not as simple as you think.
