After Colin Campbell went on a short business trip abroad, he returned home to discover his wife of many years had moved out. Shocked and heartbroken, Colin fell into a spiral of depression and loneliness. Soon after, a friend told Colin about a dog in need of rescue - a neglected 140-pound Newfoundland Landseer. Colin adopted the traumatised dog, brought him home and named him George. Free Days With George is an uplifting, inspirational story about the healing power of animals, and about leaving the past behind to embrace love, hope and happiness.

Great "feel good" book. Enjoyed this.

Whether a dog-lover or not (I am one) this book has great appeal, partly due to the author's self-deprecating and friendly nature that shows in his writing. Having been caught unawares when his beloved wife left him, he's then left to pick up the pieces of his life. Adopting a dog helps him immeasurably to do that. It's a great book. My husband even read it and liked it alot, and he's not much of a reader!

I am a dog lover and it always makes me happy to hear about a dog that has been rescued and finds a good home. The fact that Colin was also rescued really sweetens the pie.

I'm a sucker for a good dog story, and this is one of the best. When the author is faced with an inexplicable disruption in his life, he becomes severely depressed and counseling doesn't seem to help all that much. A friend suggests adopting a dog, and though initially resistant to the idea, he takes a look at a dog rescue site on the internet and is immediately drawn to the picture of one dog in particular. Thus begins an adventure for both himself and one very large Newfoundland dog. Told with honesty and humour, the stories of both the man and the dog are very touching and evoke smiles, laughs and a few tears. The book includes a couple of sets of colour photographs which enhance the story greatly. Highly recommended!
