Travelling to the capital, determined to establish the cause of death and trace the deceased s daughter an old acquaintance from Newlyn Cordon becomes entangled in a complicated situation of his own. Harvey has again written an excellent book I just wish he had not thought it necessary to use the F word six time on every other page. It seems that every character uses the word as part of their conversations. In reality people only use the F word on such a continual basis when they don't have brains to do otherwise. I also question why Harvey felt the need to throw in a total unnecessary one night stand lesbian incounter. All his other books stand up well, perhaps he thought that in 2012 it was necessary for the book to be a success. It's a shame because the story is very good and holds your attention right to the end and I did try to ignore the language but it was irritating.

Harvey is an old pro and a good writer and this novel does not disappoint. It is an excellent example of the British police procedural, featuring 2 cops: a harried, hardworking upwardly mobile black woman detective in London, and a middle aged male detective in Cornwall whose career has long ago stopped advancing. A fairly complex plot unfolds credibly, at an unhurried but reasonably quick pace. The reader's attention doesn't stray. Good stuff.
