Louise is a divorced, thirty-something admission's office at Columbia University's School of Fine Arts who is unfulfilled in her love life. That is, until a graduate school application crosses her desk and she arranges to interview the young painter. Scott bears the same name and has an uncanny resemblance to Louise's high school boyfriend and one true love, an artist who died in a car accident twenty years earlier. Within hours of the interview, Louise and Scott have embarked on a passionately affair. But is Scott just trying to wheedle his way into the Ivy League?

Laura Kinney was pretty good in this film although beset by past passions.
The student looked way too old to play a student.
Overall an engaging movie with a plot many of us are familar with.

Awful.
Hard to follow.
Should be screamingly funny in places, but cannot pull it off.

Well, try as I might - I still find it hard to say anything negative about Laura Linney. (Perhaps telling film makers to stop dressing her in knit wool?). A very thought provoking film. The acting was excellent although the dialogue was just too perfect. It's hard not to be distracted by the fact that that people can't speak so well and poetically on the fly. (Or else I want to meet the people that can!) The camera angles and the placing of the actors really adds to tension in places, coupled with the music / soundtrack (and strategic background silence as well).

In psychological depth, this film rises well above the typical chick flick & benefits from strong, engaging performances by Laura Linney & Topher Grace as her love interest. I not only identified with their realistic portrayals of the two main characters, but I also learned a thing or two from their insightful lessons-by-example on overcoming the messy realities of life, relationships, & our own immaturity.
