Very unusual songs: experimental even for Bjork. Sounds rather unappealing on a first listening, but it grows on one with re-listenings. The cover art is crazy: a conscious woman in a most unnatural pose with a giant vagina in the middle of her chest. I most liked tracks 3, 5, and especially 8.

This 9th studio album by the inimitable BJork, one of the most consistently adventurous artists of our time, is a breakup album (She was with the artist Matthew Barney.), but it avoids the usual cliches. Lathered in gorgeous string arrangements, it's, despite the heavy material, one of her most beautiful records. Bjork is at a point in her career where her only real competition is herself.

With Vulnicura, Bjork has written one of the greatest and gut wrenching breakup albums of all time. It is a raw and ambitious musical journey that chronicles the decay and ultimate end of Bjork’s relationship with her partner Matthew Barney. Out of all the tracks, the opening song Stonemilker is my favorite. Stonemilker features a cascade of breathtaking string melodies that will sweep you away to an alien world far removed from your current existence. As Bjork’s voice swells with the string accompaniment, you will get sucked into the vulnerability of her prosaic chorus only to be released when you finish the album as a whole. I think it is her most relatable album since the release of Homogenic in 1997. Vulnicura is everything we have come to expect from Bjork including innovative arrangements and otherworldly vocals while surprising the world with how real and down to earth her music is when it comes from the heart.

YAY NEW BJORK! Though "yay" is maybe not the right sentiment for Vulnicura. This album is amazing but it will rip your heart out and put it in a food processor. It chronicles Bjork's breakup from her longtime partner through candid lyrics and gorgeous strings. Definitely not to be missed.
