"When a man is found on a British beach, drifting in and out of consciousness, with no identification and unable to speak, interest in him is sparked immediately. From the hospital staff who find themselves inexplicably drawn to him, to international medical experts who are baffled by him, to the national press who call him Mr. Nobody, everyone wants answers. Who is this man? And what happened to him? Some memories are best forgotten. Neuropsychiatrist Dr. Emma Lewis is asked to assess the patient in a small town deep in the English countryside. This is her field of expertise, this is the chance she's been waiting for, and this case could make her name known across the world. But therein lies the danger. Emma left this same town fourteen years ago and has taken great pains to cover all traces of her past since then. Places aren't haunted . . . people are. But now something--or someone--is calling her back. And the more time she spends with her patient, the more alarmed she becomes that he knows the one thing about her that nobody is supposed to know"--

When your patient (a man with no memory) knows far more about your past than his own.....

Well-paced and thoroughly engrossing, this psychological thriller puts a man who remembers nothing in the hands of a young neuropsychiatrist who is trying to hide her past in Norfolk, England. Steadman can create characters you care about. Even when a good guy turns into a bad guy, the reader will have sympathy. I’d love to have more stories about the Nurse Ronda and Dr. Lewis as well as the policeman, Chris Poole. I really cared about the three of them. From the ending, though, I assume this will be a stand-alone book, but I’d still like the three of them for friends.

Spent the weekend reading this book. I love amnesia stories.
A man turns up on a beach in Norfolk and has no idea who he is or how he got there. The press dubs him Mr. Nobody. Who can help him? Enter Dr. Emma Lewis, neuropsychologist, an appealing and intelligent heroine--who has memories she'd like to forget.
I enjoyed the author's strong research on neuropsychiatry. Also the excellent backstory on Emma; bit by bit you learn what happened in her past that makes it so difficult for her to have returned to the Norfolk town where she grew up.
The heroine did take some risks that almost placed her in the realm of TSTL (Too Stupid To Live), but she was brave and resourceful, so I forgave her.
Read this for compelling psychological suspense.
