Based on a true-story, I think it's important for everyone to see to better understand white privilege, racism, and that our justice system needs an overhaul. The lawyer is truly a hero to dedicate his career to trying to right some wrongs and free people who are incarcerated for crimes they are innocent from committing.

I'm not much into the African American, I guess being born in England it is my white ancestors that started it all. But this is disgusting if the law south of our border is this way.

Amazing story. I actually did a little research and found that the events and people in this movie are astoundingly accurate. The only change I found was at the end and it had to do with the prosecutor. I appreciate that, when telling a story as profound as this one, the filmmakers were able to stick to the actual facts as closely as they did. This man (Johnny D) was not the first and will not be the last (note that in reality the sheriff was re-elected several more times until he finally retired) who was and will be the victims of racial bigotry and legal injustice. My guess is that this kind of stuff is being played out everyday in Alabama and elsewhere, especially in the South. One of the other inmates who was servicing time (on death row) with Johnny D has also been exonerated by the Equal Justice Initiative after serving over 30 years on death row. There’s something really wrong when a person can be sent to lock up on death row before they are even tried in a court of law.

Heart wrenching true story. Bryan Stevenson is a soft spoken lawyer from the north who heads south to battle an unjust racist legal system. He together with Eva Ansley founded the Equal Justice Initiative to assist those wrongly imprisoned as well as tackling other prison reforms.

Based on a true story. Heartbreaking account of an innocent man on death row and the courageous lawyer and his assistant's work to have him freed. Very good movie.

This docudrama turns out an engaging, gripping, profoundly moving court case piece with a first-rate cast.

Excellent film. Does make you angry and frustrated to know that this is still happening today, and not just in Alabama!

A gripping story about courage in the face of racial injustice in the southern United States.

Bryan Stevenson: I came out of law school with grand ideas in my mind about how to change the world. But Mr. McMillian made me realize we can't change the world with only ideas in our minds. We need conviction in our hearts. this man taught me how to stay hopeful, because I now know that hopelessness is the enemy of justice. Hope allows us to push for word, even when the truth is distorted by the people in power. It allows us to stand when they tell us to sit down, and to speak when they say be quiet.
