This book...wow. It's one of my favorite books I've ever read. When I first saw the synopsis, I felt like it was a confusing idea that I couldn't see being well written, but from the first few pages I knew right away it was a true gem. I can't say enough about how amazing this story is and how beautifully the author put it together. I just finished the last page and already can't wait to read it again. This will surely be one I revisit many times. I've heard it's also a great listen, so maybe I'll check it out on audio next.

Perfection. This book stole my whole heart. The plot was seamless, Oona raw and real and flawed, the prose thoughtful and exceptional. Every single chapter a journey, filling in little bits here and there, growing Oona as a person weaving the people around her into the brilliant quilt of her life. Poignant, bittersweet, illuminating.
The skill it must have taken to have written such a flawless book. If you can listen to this book it will be one of the best experiences of your life. The narrator is superb, expressive, and has a unique tone and voice for every character, even the thoughts of Oona. Exceptional.
This will be one of the rare books I will reread in my lifetime because I must touch the magic again. I must experience Oona and her journey at different points in my journey through life.

This was a sad story with moments of sweetness and sass. I think it was a bit more depressing for me than what the the author probably intended. From age 19, Oona is jumping from one random year in her life to the next, never knowing what year or bodily age she will be entering. The reader is living those first “jumps” in time right along with Oona and therefore, not always knowing what happened in the preceding years. This might sound confusing, but the author was very adept with story fluidity, regardless of the jumps in time. She used those “jumps” wisely as she slowly revealed plot points to maintain reader curiosity and to show character growth. My feelings of melancholy stemmed from empathy for the heroine’s loss of meaningful relationships beyond her immediate family, as well as her unfamiliarity of preceding years which made her vulnerable to disappointing missteps and the harmful motives of others. There were moments of sweetness and hope, but they were few compared to the inevitable heartbreaks. In the end, I kind of felt that her life was meant to play out a certain way and the time-jumping was her "normal." I can't think too hard about it or it makes me weary with the innumerable emotional repercussions of living such a life.

Wacky but wonderfully funny and insightful.

I think I enjoyed this book more as a physical book than as an audiobook. Both very good though, enough to immerse myself in both versions

If you're drawn to time bending novels, this one may be worth a try. It is fairly entertaining to read about Oona's leaps back and forth through the different years of her life, and the bittersweet aspects of this are lightly addressed--e.g. how to maintain a long term relationship? how to have friendships when you don't remember anyone because you just leaped in from ten years previous? I was left unsatisfied ultimately though because the novel really just skims along the surface and never reaches into the complexity of this unusual situation. There is no analysis and no reason given for why Oona's life takes this strange pattern. A pleasant, amusing read.

Oona Out of Order is perfect for someone looking for something different! It is such a creative novel and so much more than I expected it to be. At the stroke of midnight on each New Year's, which is also Oona's birthday, she starts a new year, but not like everybody else. She "leaps" to different ages, but not in chronological order. This is a really unique concept and I don't think I've ever read something quite like it. Since you are learning about Oona's life out of order with her, it's impossible to predict what will happen next. I'm so sad that it ended. I know logically that it ended at a beautiful point and made a nice story arc, but gosh darn it I just want to read about EVERY single second of Oona's life and EVERY conversation she has and EVERY moment of these years, and to see how it all unfolds. I need sequels, Margarita!! If we would have gotten a little more end of the Dale story, and find out what happens to the “next year” date guy I would have rated it 5 stars.

My only complaint is that it ended. This fast paced, surprising, bittersweet, and unique story was compulsively readable. I love a story where I start contemplating what my reaction to the situation would be, and this is a doozy of one! A book club would have a fun and lively discussion on this. There was a lacking of depth in Oona’s character development, but I still devoured it.
