Another anxiety picture by the Safdie Brothers. Not quite as strong as Good Time, but a fantastic movie nonetheless. It's always good to see Sandler actually flex his acting muscles.

Quite an intense movie, that continues to build and takes Adam Sandler's character further into a downward spiral of desperation, greed, and self-loathing. And we as viewers go along on this crazy roller coaster ride with him, as he is willing to risk it all. Definitely the best performance of his career. Also interesting to see Idina Menzel play such a different character. Nothing even close to how she is portrayed in Frozen movies! This movie is entertaining and original. And especially well worth it for Adam Sandler's amazing acting in it, as he transforms into this role.

This is one of those great movies where you can't help but hope for the best for the main character that messes up everything great in his life. The way the movie starts makes you feel awkward and the way the movie ends makes you feel awkward.

For those that want a conflict and resolution type movie, this is not that movie. This is a great look into the life of a gambling addict.

protracted, tedious sadness

Do yourself a big favor and read the reviews posted on Redbox. Horrible movie with despicable characters. half star.

Looks like they tried to copy and update The Gambler (1974). Nothing original here. Acting was not that great.

It may be true that Adam Sandler does a great job of playing this character but this movie was unpleasant from start to finish, and his character was a major reason why. I don't think there was a quiet moment or a sentence that wasn't rife with expletives in the entire film.
I usually like films that show me a world I have never seen or am likely to never see so I was interested in the idea of a jeweler's life and a high stakes gambler. I flat out do not like movies where everyone is shouting at each other and this one was non-stop clamor.
It was a downer. Way down deep where the drunkards roll.

Ask your doctor if you heart is healthy enough for this absolute stress-bomb of a movie. Adam Sandler gets absolutely lost in this role and if you can manage your anxiety, this is a fantastic film that puts you inside the head of a gambling addict. Everytime Sandler's Howard Ratner gets on steady footing, he finds a way to sabotage himself. It's intensely frustrating, and compulsively watchable.
