"Be careful to whom you tell your darkest secrets Selena Murphy is commuting home from her job in the city when the train stalls out on the tracks. She strikes up a conversation with a beautiful stranger in the next seat, and their connection is fast and easy. The woman introduces herself as Martha and confesses that she's been stuck in an affair with her boss. Selena, in turn, confesses that she suspects her husband is sleeping with the nanny. When the train arrives at Selena's station, the two women part ways, presumably never to meet again. But days later, Selena's nanny disappears. Soon Selena finds her once-perfect life upended. As she is pulled into the mystery of the missing nanny, and as the fractures in her marriage grow deeper, Selena begins to wonder, who was Martha really? But she is hardly prepared for what she'll discover."

4 star. Selena has an almost perfect life, if you can believe her social media accounts. But she has just discovered some hard truths about her marriage. When the train stops on her way home from work, she finds herself sharing confidences with a stranger, an attractive woman named Martha. Martha tells her that she is sleeping with her married boss and Selena shares her discovery about her husband. That should have been the end of it. But later, Selena's life starts to unravel and soon she discovers that she and Martha share more than just secrets. This was a neat little thriller and I enjoyed it.

I don't really know how to feel about this one. I think I was definitely intrigued by all the high ratings, but this just fell so short for me. The concept was great, meeting a random stranger on a train and confessing to them what is happening in your life. But who really does that? I know personally I wouldn't, but that's really not the point. I was hoping for a good can't put down mystery. I had NO problem putting the book down and leaving it down. I understand it was necessary for the author to have so much back details to set up the whole climax of the story, but ugh, at times it was just too much. The book just dragged at times and it was quit obvious to the reader to figure out the catch of the book early on. I think I had a little over half the book to go when I realized how the characters were all connected. I would say the last quarter of the book, was very fast paced and if someone was reading it and didn't pick up on the foreshadowing, would be so surprised by the last twist. It's worth reading, but don't buy into the hype of a fantastic can't put down read.

I always think that if an author can make you have strong emotions for the characters - good or bad - that that’s a sign of good writing. However, the characters in this story were hard to like, all of them. They all seemingly had more problems than the average person, so in that respect, it was fairly unbelievable. The development of each of the characters was clever in the sense that just about everybody was interconnected, so that took some good writing skills.
All in all, I would say this was simply an average read.

Lisa Unger always writes entertaining novels. This one was predictable, but I enjoyed watching the author weave the seemingly unrelated threads together.

Lots of hype for this title had me looking forward to an exhilarating read!

Not so much. I found the main character, Selena, totally unreal, but maybe some people are like that? Overall, disappointing cast of people, unbelievable events and actions, but I plodded through to the predictable end.
