Louis is a Trumpeter Swan, but he has no voice. Though he is frightened when his father explains to him that he is different from the other cygnets, Louis is resourceful and determined. Leaving his wild and beautiful home, he finds a young human friend, Sam Beaver, who helps him learn to read and write. When he returns to his lake, Louis discovers his education isn't enough: The beautiful swan he loves, Serena, can't read his declarations of love--and he can't trumpet them. Louis's resolution to win the swan of his desire launches him on an adventure that will take him far from home and lead where fate--and love--have a few surprises in store. With humor and lyric beauty, E.B. White tells a timeless tale of love, courage, and freedom that will capture the imagination of every listener.

We love this story, my daughter is 9 and we try to find good quality stories to listen to on the way to swimming lessons, etc. This is the same author that did Stuart Little & Charlotte's Web. It is less know, but equally as charming. I recommend it!

Have you ever wondered if the book you loved as a child would hold up to reading as an adult? This was my favorite as a kid and when I heard that E.B. White narrated the audiobook, I had to listen. This book holds up. It makes me feel good and gentle and peaceful. E.B. White's narration was delightful. He also did the narration for Charlotte's Web, so I'll listen to that one too, but, contrary to popular opinion, I always liked Trumpet of the Swan better.

Louis is a Trumpeter Swan who can't trumpet. Obviously, this is quite a problem. Louis resourceful, if slightly conceited, father steals a trumpet for his son to use as a voice. With the help of his human friend Sam, Louis sets out to earn money to pay back the store owner for the trumpet, learn to play it, and win the heart of Serena, a beautiful female swan. This book has humor, positive themes, and a few facts about birds, music, and geography.
