Interesting and convoluted plot. I found the characters engaging and sympathetic. I'll be reading the whole series, I think. Most of my favorite writers are Brits or Irish; they generally seem less slick and commercial (with the exception of Quinten Jardine).

Characters are people I don't care about. street kids are shown to be deserving of torture. Religious dogma is rampant, won't be reading any of his books anymore.

Good police procedural set in the area between Ireland and Northern Ireland. The protagonist is An Garda Siochana and the cast of characters is interesting. I will be reading the next in the series.
