"Suddenly Last Summer" is an amazing play, touching on all kinds of unusual human behaviour. Reminiscent of "Lord of the Flies," in terms of the way it scrapes off the patina of gentility, and shows the horror lying underneath. This movie version is incredibly good. ALL the cast is magnificent. Who knew that Maggie Smith could be so convincing a Louisiana Grande Dame!!

I enjoyed this DVD. It is good for all ages. There is no violence. There is not too much sex scenes for kids. Maggie Smith did a great job in all of them. Some of the BBC films is a tragedy (Shakespeare), comedy, and drama. There is one talking book story audio only.

The best thing in the collection is Suddenly. Last Summer. It's so much better than the Elizabeth Taylor film version. Maggie Smith plays the vicious mother so much better than Katharine Hepburn, and Natasha Richardson is more effective than Taylor. The Millionairess is fun to watch, the Muslim doctor is played very well by Tom Baker, but it's slight stuff. The Merchant of Venice rounds off the set.

even better than the four plays were the extended interviews, at different points in her career, in which she discusses her craft

Bed Among the Lentils, in volume 2, is a fascinating play--written especially for Dame Maggie.
