Now a major motion picture "Sully" from Clint Eastwood and starring Tom Hanks--the inspirational autobiography by one of the most captivating American heroes of our time, Capt. 'Sully' Sullenberger--the pilot who miraculously landed a crippled US Airways Flight 1549 in New York's Hudson River, saving the lives of all 155 passengers and crew.

On January 15, 2009, the world witnessed a remarkable emergency landing when Captain "Sully" Sullenberger skillfully glided US Airways Flight 1549 onto the Hudson River, saving the lives of all 155 passengers and crew. His cool actions not only averted tragedy but made him a hero and an inspiration worldwide. His story is now a major motion picture from director / producer Clint Eastwood and stars Tom Hanks, Laura Linney and Aaron Eckhart.

Sully's story is one of dedication, hope, and preparedness, revealing the important lessons he learned through his life, in his military service, and in his work as an airline pilot. It reminds us all that, even in these days of conflict, tragedy and uncertainty, there are values still worth fighting for--that life's challenges can be met if we're ready for them.

This was an engaging story by an accomplished professional. Captain Sullenberger embodies the true professional. I agree with a passage in the book in which he eschews the label of "hero." He did what he had trained to do to perfection. But for a flock of birds, he would be unknown to us all, known perhaps only by his family and colleagues as the professional that he in fact was. When the pop test came, he aced it. Only when the tide runs out, can you tell whose been skinny dipping. When the Captain and his crew emerged from the Hudson, they embodied the ideals of the uniforms they donned each day. The world is blessed to have people like him, stalwarts who embody the ideals of their professions. These people do their best every time they don their uniform, always prepared for the possibility that on any given day, only the best will suffice. On that day Sullenberger did his best, a perfect performance that made a difference. Our lives our always better when we have the opportunity to deal with professionals like this. Enjoy getting to know him in this book!

Really good book. There's a reason Capt Sullenberger didn't call it "Miracle on the Hudson" or "Flight 1549" or even "Adventures of Buckaroo Sully". Simply that the book is really about everything else but those things. Its about a search for meaning in those events, it takes the reader on a personal tour of duty, life's ups and downs, and an airline captain's daily experiences through his eyes.

Tells the story of the "Miracle on the Hudson" and its pilot. Interesting facts about the airline industry and the experiences that Sully had that enabled him to land in the river. Recommended to read before seeing the movie.

Original 2015 comment: Inspiring bio of a reluctant hero who lived to tell the story. Describes exemplary performance by first officer and flight attendants as well.
February 2017 update: We both watched the movie, then wife also read the book. She was captivated by it, just as I was.
