I’ve been watching Alfred Hitchcock films this month (SPL has quite a few). I thought I had seen most of them, but did not remember North By Northwest (1959). Starring Cary Grant and Eva Marie Saint. Grant made four films with Hitchcock (this was his last). He plays a NYC ad-man who somehow gets involved with an international spy ring. He gets “abducted, framed for murder, chased and crop-dusted” (DVD container.) The final scene has a chase down the face of Mount Rushmore (think I would have remembered that if I had previously seen this film!) Surprisingly, sexy and suggestive for 1959, but of course the woman character is also a spy! Classic Hitchcock worth another viewing if you haven’t seen it in awhile or better yet if you have never seen it.

This is absolutely a classic! One of my favorite lines in the movie: "How does a girl like you get to be a girl like you". One of the best movies, ever!

A great film, and certainly one of the most entertaining movies ever made, directed by Alfred Hitchcock at his peak.

This is a 1959 American thriller directed by Alfred Hitchcock.
With a memorable opening title sequence by graphic designer Saul Bass, this gripping, suspenseful and visually iconic film seems like Hitchcock's most stylish thriller and one of his best, if not one of the greatest films of all time.

Like it or not, it's the proto-James Bond movie.

One of my favorite movies. In classic Hitchcock form it contains action, suspense, mistaken identity, humor, exquisite photography, great acting (+ just a beautiful Eva Marie Saint), and did I mention, suspense? Also gives you a tour of American landmarks, including a fantastic Frank Lloyd Wright designed Vandamm house where the final denouement takes place.

I can't believe I never saw this movie until now. It was beautifully filmed and an interesting story. It's amazing how well everyone articulated in old movies: no mumbling, no not being able to hear the dialogue. The plot twists were interesting and challenging. Movies from before the 1970s were made for a totally different audience than today.

Cop: "Sit down." Thornhill: "I don't wanna sit down. (sits) Perfectly alright, see? We'll get 'em. We'll throw the book at 'em. Assault & kidnaping. Assault with a gun and bourbon and a sports car. We'll get 'em." Cop: "You'll be alright after a good night's sleep. We got a nice cell all made up for ya." Thornhill: "I don't want a cell. I want a policeman."
