Amazing. It is striking to see the common resemblance of human beings, regardless of their geographical environment. Gen 1:27

Gorgeous images. Yes, some of it appears to be staged, but there is a narrative to be carried throughout the episodes. The general theme is how humans use (or manipulate) the environment, to ensure their survival. Some of the resulting processes are not pretty.

Unlike Attenborough films, the focus is not on nature but on the arrogance of human beings over nature. As well, it has a ring of artificiality, presenting events as isolated when they are surrounded by high tech film makers.

Based on watching the segments, Ocean and Desert, the footage is replete with fabulous images but lacking in authenticity. By adding the personal element to it, focusing on one person or group, they have made it far too melodramatic. There are also major blunders: when did the teenage boy in the desert shooing the elephants and gathering his herd of cows have time to change clothes? In one shot, he is wearing shorts (adidas I think) and in the next long blue pants.

Some great footage from around the world (often obtained through either some smart planning or even smarter on-the-spot problem-solving), but a broader context is often missing - some explanation to tie the brilliant visuals together would have be helpful. Watch for the segment on Ottawa in the Rivers program - this series is far from being all about hunting & fishing!

What a documentary!!!!!! BBC is #1, but this makes it the only one. I reccomend everyone to watch it. It gives you an inside sight of what it means to live as a hunter. You will be amazed and fscinated. As a human being, you will realize that we can do more and can survive more depressions.

Wowed me like all the other films in this series. I find that I'm always telling these stories to other people. Fascinating stuff!!

Too much hunting and fishing for my sensitivities. The scenery is interesting, and I did learn things, but it is mainly about how people kill animals. Also, there are many hours of it, at least 4 hours on the first DVD, I think.
