This novel's topic of a criminal case leads people to think that it fits in the Suspense genre, but it really doesn't. We know from the beginning that the primary suspect doesn't go to prison, and common sense tells us that the child isn't discovered alive and unharmed at the end. Really, the novel simply explores how such a case weighs on the people surrounding it, those other than the criminal and his victim. The book drags a bit, but it's very well written and fairly entertaining.
