With Vulnicura, Bjork has written one of the greatest and gut wrenching breakup albums of all time. It is a raw and ambitious musical journey that chronicles the decay and ultimate end of Bjork’s relationship with her partner Matthew Barney. Out of all the tracks, the opening song Stonemilker is my favorite. Stonemilker features a cascade of breathtaking string melodies that will sweep you away to an alien world far removed from your current existence. As Bjork’s voice swells with the string accompaniment, you will get sucked into the vulnerability of her prosaic chorus only to be released when you finish the album as a whole. I think it is her most relatable album since the release of Homogenic in 1997. Vulnicura is everything we have come to expect from Bjork including innovative arrangements and otherworldly vocals while surprising the world with how real and down to earth her music is when it comes from the heart.
