The world is staring at Mutually Assured Destruction, except this time it's from cyber, not nuclear, weapons. This well-researched book is horrifying in its portrayal of the shadowy and ongoing cyber war between nation states, fed by the black market for zero-day software, whose effects periodically manifest in ransomware attacks and critical infrastructure malfunctions. The threat of a cyber attack, or the wielding of one, is clearly affecting international events behind the scenes in ways we do not know. Perlroth has been covering cybersecurity for the NY Times for many years. Her access to key American government officials, hackers, and semi-legitimate international infosec companies/brokers is frankly amazing.
