Predictable ending. Watering down depression and anxiety to make it palatable, but probably why it’s a best seller. “Morals of story” felt forced and obvious, instead of cleverly included.

One of the best books I have read in some time. I really liked his style of writing and his insight into human nature.

I loved this book. It was different than what I normally read. The comments that said that it was predictable were true, but this didn't bother me at all. Also, I didn't mind the reminders life and the messages that the book made me think…

A fun read but wouldn't re-read. It's touching and interesting to see how the protagonist slowly changes perspectives throughout each of the books, but it felt too far-fetched and I wasn't super interested in what would happen next.

This is a book about Nora Seed, her decisions and regrets in life. Getting more chances to get it right. It's a pinch of "Jumanji" but mostly "it's a Wonderful Life". Seemed predictable to me.

If Mitch Albom decided to mingle his heartfelt depth of reflective humanity in a collaboration with a gentle parallel universes sci-fi parable, the result *might* compete with "The Midnight Library:" a rare, compelling, light-hearted but…

Nora Seed has a plethora of regrets and often wonders what her life could have been if she had only made different choices along the way. "The Midnight Library" is a lovely fantasy novel that explores parallel universes and 'what might…

Basically “It’s a Wonderful Life” but less heartfelt. The novel tries to tackle the large topic of depression and suicide with the subtlety of a Hallmark aphorism. In all fairness, it’s an easy read but nothing too compelling to recommend…

Great idea but I was turned off by the lack of subtlety - not sure if that was intentional or if I'm just not the target audience. It felt like I was playing a video game that constantly gives you help and hints to make sure you get it.

Wow. Just wow.

I was happy that I read this book and looked forward to discussing it with someone. A bit slow at times, but it encouraged reflection and pointed me towards interesting thoughts. Would definitely recommend it to a friend.

I loved Mrs. Elm, didn't see why this was the 2020 Goodreads book of the year, lots of thoughts to consider as a reader also making choices, but skimmed the last third of the book. It went on too long without that much change in Nora. In…

If you read through the various comments, you’ll see that “The Midnight Library” has mixed reviews. I can agree with both the praise and critiques, but ultimately, when I finished the book, I felt glad to have read it and wanted to talk…

Noticing the large number of comments and the diversity of ratings, maybe this would be a good book club choice and elicit much discussion. I thought the writing was average; the classification as SciFi was silly; the number of possible…

I couldn't feel compassion for the main character. The day by day, hour by hour, count down to her suicide put me off. Not my cup of tea.

Writing was on a 5th grade level, no character development, predictable plot, boring... I have no idea how this ended up so many lists of people loving it. Unlikable main character. It was a quick read, and I thought for a few moments it…

5 stars. Nora Seed is having a bad life. Things just don't seem to be working out. She has no one and her cat just died and she lost her job and she decides to kill herself. And when she wakes up, she's in the Midnight Library where…

This starts out really strong and I love the concept. However, there were some holes in how it all worked that were hard to get past. The last half, especially the ending, were very cliche. I'm convinced this getting hype simply because it…

The Midnight Library is one I would recommend to anyone struggling with regret. At the end of the book, I found my own perspective on a major regret I have in my own life shifted, through seeing Nora's journey of uncovering more nuances in…

This booked touched on a lot of places. As someone who consistently wonders about what would have been if I had done things differently, this book took those regrets and played them out in a interesting narrative. I wasn't sure about the…

It was an interesting and thought provoking book. I could've done without the global warming propaganda.

This was a struggle to get through. Completely heavy handed and transparent. It was so predictable that it was a relief to finish the book. An important topic, but honestly did not need to be lectured to by a book in such a transparent…

It was a surprisingly quick read. I enjoyed it and thought the premise of the book was unique, but will be honest and say I wasn't completely blown away by this story. The author had a chance to dig deeper into the plot which could have…
